Yellow Lily

by Stephanie Suesan Smith, Ph.D. on July 5, 2011

I always associate lilies like this with funerals. For the longest time, I thought all lilies were yellow like this and the only time they were brought out was when someone died. Of course, I now know that isn’t true, but lilies will never be my favorite flower.

I love Lilies. Day Lilies to be exact. I have them all over my gardens, in all different colors. They are drought tolerant and give such a beautiful display in full bloom. This year though they are suffering. It’s sad to watch. The only thing I don’t like about Lilies is that their blooms only last a day. Not good for cut flowers.

I am glad someone likes them. I am allergic to them, so only photograph them outside.

This is such a pretty flower, but I’m with you on the funeral thing – that’s what I always used to associate lilies with, too! My favorite flower is the gerber daisy – simple, but sweet. What’s yours?
