This is a water lotus (Nelumbo lutea)  from the Dallas Arboretum.  The lotus plant is sacred to Buddhists because it grows in mud, through the water, and into the air, symbolizing man’s journal from birth to enlightenment.

Water lotuses are exotic, majestic and dramatic. What some people don’t know is that, it is a close relative of the water lily. A really good fragrance plant, smells very nice.
