Common vetch (Vicia sativa)  is often planted as a pasture forage for cattle.  It fixes nitrogen the way all legumes do and replenishes the soil as it grows.  Sometimes it is used as a cover crop between plantings of row crops for the same reason.  Further, it is attractive to bees, butterflies, and birds.
