My mailbox has a bird nest in it. The large rural mailbox was smashed with a sledge hammer by some neighborhood boys and it left a small opening on one side. A wren decided it was a good place for a nest. Overnight she built it and laid an egg in it, as if she knew that once an egg was in it, I would not bother the nest. The mail lady is careful when she puts the mail in, I am careful when I remove it, and the eggs hatched. Today I saw the first feathers on the sleeping babies when I got my mail.
