Texas Thistle

by Stephanie Suesan Smith, Ph.D. on February 7, 2011

This Texas thistle blew in the wind out in front of my house this summer. They like to live in marginal territory — this one was on the edge of the bar ditch. They are beautiful but prickly native Texans.

Texas thistle, Cirsium texanum

Nice picture, although I thought they were native of Africa and very North America. Its weird that even though its kind of prickly, some people in Japan and India eat these kind of plants.
