Poppy Bud

by Stephanie Suesan Smith, Ph.D. on April 27, 2011

This poppy bud was taken at Clark Gardens.  I thought it looked very artistic.  This is not a opium poppy — those are illegal.  However, the way that the sap that becomes opium is gathered is by scoring the beds and then collecting the milky sap that oozes out.  It takes a lot of poppies to make much opium.  This poppy, however, will be a pretty flower instead of an addict’s nightmare.

Awesome pic and pose! It might have known that you were coming to take a photo, so it got ready for the photoshoot. What a natural! 🙂
