Magnolia Tree

This huge magnolia tree is at the Dallas Arboretum. As you can see from the bench at the bottom, magnolia trees can get very large if not trimmed.  This is something to remember when planting them.

Yellow Lily

I always associate lilies like this with funerals. For the longest time, I thought all lilies were yellow like this and the only time they were brought out was when someone died. Of course, I now know that isn’t true, but lilies will never be my favorite flower.

Crape Myrtle Close Up

This flower was at my parent’s farm.  Crape myrtle blossoms always remind me of the fancy outfits square dancers wear.  The blooms look life the ruffles on the women’s skirts.

Pomegranate Flower

My parents have two pomegranates tree in their yard.  About 4 out of 5 years, there is a freeze after the trees bloom and they do not produce fruit.  Every once in a while, however, they manage a few pomegranates.  I caught this flower last week, so maybe they will have some fruit this year.

Basil blossoms

Basil is another herb that you do not usually see in bloom because the blooms take some of the essential oils from the leaves.  People pinch the blooms off for this reason.  Here, though, is what the flowers look like if allowed to develop.
