Mantis Skin

by Stephanie Suesan Smith, Ph.D. on September 1, 2010

I was walking in the pasture and saw the strangest thing.  It was a praying mantis skin hanging in the air.  It looked like a mantis ghost floating in the air.  On closer examination, it was attached to the tree branch above it by a thin silk line.  I guess it was a victim of a spider whose web had since been destroyed.  Creepy, none the less.

It looks as if it’s coming to get us.

Poor mantis, got his insides sucked on by a spider. What a lucky find, I’ve wondered how you keep finding these kind of situations.
