Giant Holly Tree

by Stephanie Suesan Smith, Ph.D. on April 8, 2011

I do woodworking as well as photography.  I read a lot about medieval woodworking and would come across references to holly wood.  The only holly I knew was that prickly stuff  people planted under the windows to ward off burglars.  How much wood can you get from that?  Well, this holly tree at the Dallas Arboretum made it clear that holly would grow into a tree if you didn’t top it.  One mystery solved.

That is one big BUSH. Woodworking sounds like a nice hobby, would love to see some of your work Stephanie. Maybe you can post it here sometime or maybe you already did and I haven’t seen it yet? Anyway, I’ll try to look for it, thanks!
