Orange and Black Koi

by Stephanie Suesan Smith, Ph.D. on July 3, 2010

A friend and I went to the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens recently.  In the Japanese Gardens, they had this pond with huge koi in it.  Koi (Cyprinus carpio) are a type of carp that can live to be 50-100 years old if properly cared for.  Since they never stop growing, such koi can get to be huge.  This one was about three feet long.
